Mission Statement
As a community leader, Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Grand Island will
provide a full range of quality products and services that emphasize financial security
and home ownership for members of our community.
As a depositor-owned institution, we will accomplish this mission through sound
financial management, profitable growth and by providing our depositors with value through
competitive products and outstanding customer service.
History of Home Federal
Home Federal Savings and Loan was founded by Buck Beltzer in
May, 1935. Home Federals first office was located in the Grand Island Business College Building at
212 North Locust Street. (This lot is now a parking lot on the north side of Grand Island
Optical.) Buck and his staff of three began by providing savings accounts and home
loans to area residents.
The institution moved for a short time to a building on Third Street. Home Federal
quickly outgrew this facility, and in 1967 moved into its current location at 221 South
Locust Street. Buck Beltzers son, James B. Beltzer, Sr., was President of the
institution at this time. A branch office was later opened at 2007 North Broadwell to help
serve the growing north side of Grand Island. In 1981 a new facility was built near the
Conestoga Mall at 3419 West State Street. Home
Federal expanded again in 2004, when the Southwest Office opened at
3311 W. Stolley Park Rd. In 2006, Home Federal grew once again
with the opening of the Skagway South Office, 1607 S. Locust St.
Home Federal constantly strives to meet the changing needs of our customers. As a
result, Home Federal now offers a variety of checking and savings accounts (personal and
business), mortgage loans, personal loans, investment services, and the convenience of
numerous ATMs in the Grand Island area. Because we are locally owned and operated, Home Federal
provides "home town" service and local decisions regarding loans (both mortgage
and personal).
(Home Federal is a depositor-owned financial institution; therefore, we generally do
not originate loans or accept deposits from sources outside of our immediate trade area.)
